            Fee:                 $25 per Debater

                                    $15 for 1st two speeches

                                    $5 for each added speech

                                    $10/person Banquet

            At tournament registration:

                                    Each team must have a coach or parent leader register

                                    their team. That coach will then hand out packets to each of

the team members. Each student therefore, does not need to

check in at the registration table.

 

            Late Registration and Event changes:

                                    From 7:00 – 7:30 on Thursday morning students may drop,

                                    add, or change their speech events. There will be a $7 fee for late,

                                    or changed events, but no charge to drop one.

Debate:

 

Limit:  60 teams

 

 

Individual Events

 

            Limit:  There is no limit to the number of students who participate.

                        Each student may compete in 5 events.

 

Judges & Timers

 

Judges: To ensure an optimal experience for all those involved, we ask that

   participants bring their own timepiece and a judge if at all possible.

 

            Timers: If a parent or sibling (10 years & older) would be willing to time, please

                          let the registration/information desk know.

 

            Timepieces:

                        We ask that each team bring as many labeled timepieces as they have

                        available.

           

            Training:

                        There will be judges training every half hour preceding a new round.

Judges only need to attend one training session for speech and one for debate. Even if you are an experienced judge, we ask that you attend one of the sessions to ensure consistency in judging.

 

            Hospitality:

A hospitality room, with food and drinks, will be available all three days for those judging.

 

Meals

 

            There is no time scheduled to leave the tournament in order to eat. The church we are using will be providing concessions all day, each day. They ask that we give them an idea of the amount of food to be purchased by each family, so they can correctly order. You will pay at the time of purchase.

            You are also welcome to bring your own meals from outside, however, I ask that you consider purchasing some food at the tournament in order to support Harwood Terrace Baptist.

            Time: Friday, 6:00 – 8:00

                      $5/child (age10 & under)

 

            Dress: If time permits, we ask you to deck out in your western wear, for this

                        Heel-stomping Hoe Down.

 

            Do we have to attend?

No, but you’ll regret it if you don’t. We’re planning to have a knee-slapping good time!

Just for Fun Video Scavenger Hunt

Before leaving for the tournament, or on the way to D /FW, tape your team doing any of the following. Extra points will be given for original footage. Turn in the tape at the information desk sometime on Thursday. Cuttings of the tapes will be used at the banquet. A team Spirit Award will be given based on the tape, encouragement of teammates, and best showing of western wear at Banquet.

 

Write a club chant, cheer or song, tape club members performing it

Ask random people what OPEC stands for

Ask random people how to decrease dependency on foreign oil

Get a stranger to give a 2 min impromptu speech

Give an Oratorical Interpretation in a busy public place, tape peoples reactions

Go to a car dealership; tape the salesman’s sales pitch on hybrids

Give a DI to a group of non-speech people and tape the audience crying (the more tears, the more points)

Hold a mock debate at a fast food restaurant; tape people’s reactions

Play “Want to buy a duck” at a restaurant

Tape your group singing silly songs in the car on the way to the tournament

 

For College-Bound Students

College Fair - For those interested in beginning the search for the right college, we will be having a College Fair in the gym from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday,
March 5th.  Please feel free to visit with college recruiters about the possibly of your student attending their school.
