Tournament Information

 

DATE: March 31-April 2, 2005

 

LOCATION: ChristChurch Baptist Fellowship, 12501 Champion Forest Drive, Houston, Texas, 77066. www.christchurchbaptist.org.

 

ELIGIBILITY: The Texas State Tournament is reserved for Texas students only. Intraregional partnerships must be declared prior to regional competition. Each family is responsible for reviewing the NCFCA rules to verify eligibility.

 

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registrations postmarked by March 21st will be considered on time registration. Registrations postmarked after March 21st must include a $15 late fee and will be accepted on an as available basis. Do not mail your registration after March 24th without first e-mailing Diana Armstrong, dianaintx@houston.rr.com. Make check payable to West Houston Speech and Debate Club (WHSDC) and send to Diana Armstrong, 12018 Isle Vista Dr, Houston, TX 77041.

 

SCHEDULE: This tournament is a qualifier for the Region IV Tournament to be held May 5-7, 2005. Sanctioned debate and IE rounds will be offered in accordance with NCFCA rules. Outrounds will be held on Saturday. An IE Junior Division will also be offered on Friday. A preliminary schedule is posted on the registration website.

 

DEBATE COMPETITION: Six preliminary rounds are offered on Thursday and Friday with outrounds on Saturday.

 

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: Three preliminary rounds are offered on Thursday and Friday with outrounds on Saturday. Entry in multiple events is encouraged, but each participant is limited to a maximum five speech events. All eleven individual events are being offered at registration, but only those events with a minimum participation of four competitors will be held. Scripts are allowed but will result in a 1-rank penalty.

 

The Junior Division will include students age eight to twelve not competing in the main NCFCA events (a 12-year-old may not compete in both IE divisions). The Junior Division events will follow general NCFCA IE rules, but the time limit will be five minutes.

 

DRESS CODE: The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills. Competitors must be professional, clean and well-groomed. Gentlemen shall wear suits or sport coats and ties. Ladies shall wear either dresses, skirts, or suits. Hemlines shall fall to at least the bottom of the knee.

 

FOOD: The food registration form for lunches and the Friday night banquet should be included with this form.

 

TIMERS: Each debate team is requested to provide a time piece. Responsible younger students (especially siblings) and adults not participating in the tournament are encouraged to participate in the tournament by serving as timekeepers.
