Registration Information
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY: This is a NCFCA qualifying
tournament and any region IV student wanting to qualify for the NCFCA Region IV
competition is welcome to participate.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE: Registration will be on a first come first serve basis. Capacity may be limited so please register as soon as possible. A complete registration includes:
(1) Online registration at http://www.speakoutntx.com/bedford.html AND
(2) A printed copy of the completed and signed Event and Food registration form mailed to Speak Out North Texas, 1696 Yellowstone, Lewisville, TX 75077 with the appropriate payment by March 20, 2006. Please make checks payable to SONT.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: All registrations postmarked by March 20th will
be accepted as on-time registrations. Registrations postmarked after that date
must include a $10 per event late fee and will be accepted on an “as
available” basis only. To avoid problems with your registration, please
follow the 2 steps above by March 20th.
Changes
to speech events only for
students already registered will be accepted until April 3rd at
no additional charge. For additions after April 3rd, please add an
additional $10 per event late fee and will be accepted on an “as
available” basis.
Refunds
will only be issued for extenuating circumstances. Don’t register if your
participation is uncertain. A family’s online registration is their commitment
to pay the registration fee, even if they do not attend the tournament.
DRESS CODE: The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills. Competitors must be professional, clean and well-groomed. Gentlemen shall wear suits or sport coats and ties. Ladies shall wear dresses, skirts, or suits. Hemlines shall fall to at least the bottom of the knee.
REGION IV QUALIFIER T-SHIRTS: A limited supply of Region IV Qualifier t-shirts will be on sale at the tournament for participants and their families. Cost: $10/shirt. The names of all participants that register by the March 20th deadline will be printed on the back of the t-shirts. Students are encouraged to wear their t-shirts at the Banquet Friday night.
AWARDS CEREMONY: The awards ceremony is an important part of the tournament and is intended to be an encouraging and respectful ceremony to celebrate every student’s achievement during the tournament. Students accepting awards will be required to adhere to the dress code, and students in the audience are encouraged to remain in dress code out of respect for the students receiving awards.
CHAPERONES: All competitors under age 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a
parent, legal guardian, or adult chaperone throughout the entire tournament. An
adult chaperone (other than a parent) accepts full responsibility in the
parent’s absence and should be in possession of a signed medical release for
each student.
FOOD REGISTRATION: The food registration form should be included with the participant registration form.
JUDGE COMMITMENT:
A tremendous amount of volunteer effort is required to host and run a speech
and debate tournament. One of the things each family can do to help the
tournament run on time is by providing judges (either helping recruit community
judges or parent/coach judges). Each debate team is requested to provide a
judge for at least two rounds. IE competitors are asked to provide a judge for
each event in which they compete.
TIMERS: Each debate team should bring a timepiece to the tournament. Debate clubs may bring timepieces labeled for their club directly to the Timer Table on Thursday morning.
Responsible younger students (especially siblings) and adults viewing rounds are encouraged to participate in the tournament by serving as timekeepers. Please check in at the Timer Table 15 to 30 minutes before the round begins to get your timing assignment.
HOST HOUSING: Limited host housing may be available, please contact our Housing Coordinator, Jeff Sherman at jdsherm10@yahoo.com or (940-648-2113).
NCFCA RULES: Complete
league rules may be found at www.NCFCA.org.
We
are looking forward to seeing you all at this exciting event. If you have any questions concerning these
policies or if we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact the
Tournament Directors, Hazem & Suzanne
Nasser at smnasser@verizon.net.
