2007 DFW Regional Qualifier

February 22-24, 2007

Registration Information

TOURNAMENT LOCATION: Harwood Terrace Baptist Church (HTBC), 3420 Brown Trail, Bedford, TX 76021. http://www.harwoodterracebaptist.org/

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY: The DFW Regional Qualifier is an NCFCA Qualifying Tournament open to all NCFCA Affiliates in Region IV. Intraregional partnerships must be declared prior to competition in a Qualifier. Each family is responsible for reviewing the NCFCA rules to verify eligibility.

SPEECH and DEBATE EVENTS: Debate students must choose to compete in either Team Policy Debate (TP) or Lincoln Douglas Values Debate (LD). TP and LD run concurrently in the schedule, so participation in both is not possible. Students may participate in a maximum of five Individual Speech Events at this tournament.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE: Registration will be on a first to pay, first served basis. Capacity may be limited so please register as soon as possible. A complete registration includes:

1.      *Online registration at http://www.speakoutntx.com/bedfordinfo.html  AND

2.      A printed copy of the completed and signed Event and Food registration form mailed to Speak Out North Texas, 1696 Yellowstone, Lewisville, TX 75077 with the appropriate payment by February 8, 2007. Please make checks payable to SONT.

NOTE: Registration is not complete until payment is received. Please send in your check and registration form the same day you send the e-mail.

* Families that prefer to email their form instead of registering online can email them to texasdebate@verizon.net .

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: All registrations postmarked by Feb. 8th will be accepted as on-time registrations. Registrations postmarked after that date must include a $10 per event late fee and will be accepted on an “as available” basis only. To avoid problems with your registration, please follow the 2 steps above by February 8th.

Changes to speech events only for students already registered will be accepted until February 12th at no additional charge. For additions after February 12th, please add an additional $10 per event late fee and will be accepted on an “as available” basis.

The registration rosters will be posted to http://www.speakoutntx.com/bedfordinfo.html on a regular basis. Registrants should check the roster to ensure the registration information is correct.

REFUNDS: Refunds will only be issued for extenuating circumstances. Don’t register if your participation is uncertain. A family’s online or email registration is their commitment to pay the registration fee, even if they do not attend the tournament.

REGION IV QUALIFIER T-SHIRTS: DFW Region IV Qualifier t-shirts are back! T-shirts must be ordered and paid for by Feb. 8th.  Order as many shirts as you need on the Event Registration form below. Cost: $10/shirt. The names of all participants that register by the February 8th deadline will be printed on the back of the t-shirts.  Students are encouraged to wear their t-shirts at the Banquet Friday night.

DRESS CODE: The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills. Competitors must be professional, clean and well-groomed. Gentlemen shall wear suits or sport coats and ties. Ladies shall wear dresses, skirts, or suits. Hemlines shall fall to at least the bottom of the knee.

AWARDS CEREMONY: The awards ceremony is an important part of the tournament and is intended to be an encouraging and respectful ceremony to celebrate every student’s achievement during the tournament. Students accepting awards will be required to adhere to the dress code, and students in the audience are encouraged to remain in dress code out of respect for the students receiving awards.

CHAPERONES: All competitors under age 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or adult chaperone throughout the entire tournament. An adult chaperone (other than a parent) accepts full responsibility in the parent’s absence and should be in possession of a signed medical release for each student.

FOOD REGISTRATION: The food registration form should be included with the participant registration form.

JUDGE COMMITMENT: A tremendous amount of volunteer effort is required to host and run a speech and debate tournament. One of the things each family can do to help the tournament run on time is by providing judges (either helping recruit community judges or parent/coach judges). Each debate team is requested to provide a judge for at least two rounds. IE competitors are asked to provide a round of judging for each event in which they compete.

TIMERS: Each debate team is required to bring a timepiece to the tournament. Bring timepieces labeled with your name (or club) directly to the Timer Table on Thursday morning.

Responsible younger students (especially siblings) and adults viewing rounds are encouraged to participate in the tournament by serving as timekeepers. Please check in at the Timer Table 15 to 30 minutes before the round begins to get your timing assignment.

SCRIPT SUBMISSION:  Script submissions are required at this NCFCA Qualifying Tournament.  Please download the form from NCFCA (www.NCFCA.org on the speech page) or http://www.speakoutntx.com/bedfordinfo.html. Print out one submission form for each of your events, excluding limited prep.  Be prepared to turn in your speeches when you check in at the tournament.

NCFCA RULES: Complete league rules may be found at www.NCFCA.org. NCFCA league rules and policies will prevail in any conflict with this registration form.

HOST HOUSING: Limited host housing may be available, please contact our Housing Coordinator, Lisa Smith at smith_lisa_m@yahoo.com or 817-439-5473.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at this exciting event. If you have any questions concerning these policies or if we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact the Tournament Directors, Hazem & Suzanne Nasser at smnasser@verizon.net.
