2007 NCFCA Region IV Speech &
Debate Invitational Tournament
Tournament Information
DATE: April 26-28, 2007
LOCATION: ChristChurch Baptist Fellowship, 12501
Champion Forest Drive, Houston, Texas, 77066. www.christchurchbaptist.org.
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY: The Region IV Invitational is an
invitation-only NCFCA tournament for students who have previously qualified and
received an invitation. Each family is responsible for reviewing the NCFCA
rules to verify participant eligibility.
A
complete list of students and their invited events is listed at www.larimerfamily.org. Please check
for your tournament invitation for all events before you complete the registration
form. Please do not register for events in which you are not invited at this
tournament.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE: Registration for this tournament
is completed via e-mail (NatReg@NCFCA.org)
AND snail mail (to NCFCA, P. O. Box 212, Mountlake Terrace, WA
98043-0212). A complete registration
will include (1) an e-mail with the completed event and food registration
forms, (2) the appropriate payment (check made out to NCFCA) and (3) a hard
copy of the completed and signed event and food registration form mailed with
the payment by April 13th. Please send in your check and
registration form the same day you send the e-mail.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: All registrations postmarked by April 13th will
be accepted as on time registrations. Registrations postmarked after that
date must include a $30 late fee (per student) and may be accepted on an as
available basis only. To avoid problems
with your registration, please follow the above three steps by April 13th.
Refunds
will only be issued for extenuating circumstances. Don’t register if your
participation is uncertain. A family’s e-mail registration is their commitment
to pay the entire registration fee, even if they do not attend the tournament.
SCRIPT SUBMISSION: Script submissions are required at the Regional Invitational Tournament. Please download the form from NCFCA (www.NCFCA.org on the speech page) or www.larimerfamily.org. Print out one submission form for each of your events, excluding limited prep. Scripts must be submitted at tournament check-in, and students without scripts will not be allowed to compete.
DRESS CODE: The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication skills. Competitors must be professional, clean and well-groomed. Gentlemen shall wear suits or sport coats and ties. Ladies shall wear either dresses, skirts, or suits. Hemlines shall fall to at least the bottom of the knee.
AWARDS CEREMONY: The awards ceremony is an important part of the tournament and is intended to be an encouraging and respectful ceremony to celebrate every student’s achievement during the tournament. Students accepting awards will be required to adhere to the dress code, and students in the audience are encouraged to remain in dress code out of respect for the students receiving awards.
CHAPERONES: All competitors under age 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a
parent, legal guardian, or adult chaperone throughout the entire tournament. An
adult chaperone (other than a parent) accepts full responsibility in the parent’s
absence and should be in possession of a signed medical release for each
student.
FOOD REGISTRATION: The food registration form should be included with the participant registration form.
JUDGE COMMITMENT:
A tremendous amount of volunteer effort is required to host and run a speech
and debate tournament. One of the things each family can do to help the
tournament run on time is to provide judges (either helping recruit community
judges or parent/coach judges). Each debate team is requested to provide a
judge for at least two rounds. IE competitors are asked to provide a round of
judging for each event in which they compete.
TIMERS: Each debate team should bring a timepiece to the tournament. Debate clubs may bring timepieces labeled for their club directly to the Timer Table on Thursday morning.
Responsible younger students (especially siblings) and adults viewing rounds are encouraged to participate in the tournament by serving as timekeepers. Please check in at the Timer Table 15 to 30 minutes before the round begins to get your timing assignment.
NCFCA RULES: Complete
league rules may be found at www.NCFCA.org.
